Ex-pat supermarket to back top British cliff diver

BRITAIN’S top cliff diver is being supported this year (2010) by a virtual supermarket that provides a service for ex-pats living overseas.

Bristol-based www.BritishCornerShop.co.uk, which specialises in sending branded food products to British people living abroad, is helping Southampton cliff diver, Gary Hunt by supplying him with the food items when he is competing.

The company’s Managing Director, Mark Callaghan explained: “This is the first year we’ve agreed to support Gary. He is a real contender to win the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series for 2010. There are some British food items Gary won’t be able to get hold of while he is competing all over the world, so we have offered to help him by sending them as and when he needs them.

“The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is high diving at its most death-defying. Gary has to make an acrobatic descent into water from heights of up to 28 metres. Once in the air, Gary has approximately three seconds to co-ordinate his movements before he breaks the surface of the water at around 60mph.”

The 2010 Red Bull World Series is made up of six competitions, which are held in six different countries. It runs between May and September and the world’s best divers compete for the overall series’ title.

Mark added: “Gary recently came first place in the second stop of the 2010 Red Bull World Series in Yucatán in Mexico. He also came first place in the first stop in La Rochelle, France in May. His next event will be the third stop of the Series in Norway in July.

“In 2009, Gary came second in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series and first in the High Diving World Cup.

“We will be sending Gary some of his favourite items while he is competing abroad. These include: crumpets, Paxo sage and onion stuffing, Bisto gravy granules, Mr Kipling lemon slices and Kelloggs crunchy nut bites.”

www.BritishCornerShop.co.uk provides an online service to anyone who has a loved one abroad and wants to send them food parcels and treats regularly. It also offers the service to people who come from Britain and are hankering after a taste of home. It recently sent cakes to commandos in Afghanistan and to the Irish Embassy in Moscow.

The company stocks more than 6,000 British food products, covering all the major brands found in British supermarkets. The customer-focused website, which was launched in 2004, delivers British food to consumers worldwide and can also sell to trade customers and shops overseas via its wholesale department.

Mark continued: “We sell more or less all the branded products you’d expect to find in a British supermarket. There are some firm traditional favourites across the board, including Heinz Baked Beanz, Marmite, Walkers Crisps, McVitie’s biscuits and Cadbury’s chocolate, but we also cater for more unusual needs. We have previously shipped £50,000 of bacon to South America.”
