A BRIDGWATER public relations (PR) company is bucking the national trend for job cuts and recruitment freezes this month (June, 2010) and is seeking new staff.
Bristol Road-based Porcupine PR, which celebrates its 16th anniversary this year (2010), has expanded its business recently and has secured several new clients and contracts.
Director, Andy Doran, explained: “While lots of other PR companies regionally and nationally might be experiencing a downturn in business due to the economic situation, we’re actually having one of our best years ever.
“During an economic downturn the value of PR and the reputation of a business are very important and they need to be maintained and enhanced. Companies that decide to cut back on their marketing and PR, which includes their perceived customer service, are often the ones who don’t make it through.
“We can help businesses promote themselves in a creative and innovative way for a relatively small fee. Many of our regional and national clients are retailers and they have cut back on other more traditional and now obsolete methods of marketing to devote more energy to PR because they have found it really pays off.”
Now Porcupine PR is hoping to add four new graduate Trainee PR Consultants to its team of eight immediately.
Andy continued: “We’re looking for four new members of staff to help us expand the business further. Details of the role and an application form can be found on our website by visiting www.porcupinepr.co.uk.
“We’re also hoping to host some free seminars for companies in the area to help them analyse their marketing and give them some tips on how to survive the recession. If anyone is interested in finding out more about these sessions, which will take place in September 2010, please look at our website or give us a call on 01278 446801.”
Porcupine PR was launched in 1994 by former Guardian media journalist Rachel Burks. The company specialises in retail and business to business clients, and has helped large national companies, such as the supermarket chain Tesco, with their PR projects.
In the South West, Porcupine PR’s clients include Bristol-based international online retailer www.BritishCornerShop.co.uk, Sanders GardenWorld at Brent Knoll and tyre and vehicle repair specialists, Protyre.
Nationally and internationally, the company also represents Olympic and Commonwealth diver, Peter Waterfield, the UK’s leading supplier of wild bird food and gardening products, Gardman and training firm, Adaptis.
Andy added: “We’ve retained the business of many of our key clients for more than nine years now. Our work for them goes from strength to strength and as well as gaining new clients we will continue to work very closely with our existing customers to ensure they get the very best PR coverage possible.”
