GEMMA Ellis from Taunton has been promoted to Junior PR Consultant for the award-winning, Bridgwater-based public relations company Porcupine PR Ltd.
In her new role, the 24-year-old will continue to help with promoting the company’s key regional clients, including UK Garden Centre of the Year, Sanders GardenWorld in Brent Knoll and Hero Recruitment, in Bridgwater.
Porcupine PR Managing Director, Rachel Burks, said: “Gemma joined us in 2009 in a trainee role and has worked hard to achieve her new position. She is now integral to the Porcupine PR team and we look forward to working with her on lots of exciting new projects in the coming months.”
Gemma graduated from Cardiff University in 2007 with a 2:1 in English Literature and Language Studies.
Before attending university, Gemma studied for A Levels at St Ilan School in Caerphilly in Mid Glamorgan.
Gemma’s previous PR experience includes freelance work for Powells Communication Consultants in Manchester where she was involved with overseeing a competition for one of their key clients.
Gemma has also undertaken work experience at Powells Communication Consultants and Corixa Communications in Bristol.
In her spare time Gemma enjoys travelling, and spent a year living and working in Australia. She indulges her passion for music by going to gigs and festivals, and stays active by swimming and cycling.
Gemma added: “I am delighted with my new role at Porcupine PR. It looks set to be a busy time at the firm in the coming months. One of my new tasks will be organising the company’s 16th anniversary celebrations in September.
“I have gained lots of new skills and knowledge since joining Porcupine PR and I’m keen to gain more experience and to develop further.”
Porcupine PR was launched in 1994 by former Guardian Media journalist Rachel Burks. The company specialises in retail clients and has in the past helped large national companies, such as the supermarket chain Tesco, with their PR projects.
The company’s key regional clients include Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield in Taunton and online retailer www.BritishCornerShop.co.uk and confectionery brand, British Butler, which are both Bristol-based.
Nationally and internationally, Porcupine PR also represents Olympic and Commonwealth diver, Peter Waterfield, Gardman, the UK’s leading provider of gardening and wild bird care products, and Greenfingers, a national charity that creates magical gardens at children’s hospices.
Rachel added: “While lots of other PR companies regionally and nationally might be experiencing a downturn in business due to the economic situation, we’re actually having one of our best years ever.
“We’re now looking for four new graduate Trainee PR Consultants to help us expand the business further. Details of the role and an application form can be found on our website by visiting www.porcupinepr.co.uk.”
