It’s easy to have a PR nightmare. The most famous gaffe of them all has got to be Gerald Ratner, the former Chief Executive of Ratners jewellers.
At a speech at the Institute of Directors in 1991 he was quoted as saying that his then company’s products were ‘total crap’.
The speech caused the value of the company to fall by around £500 million and Ratner resigned shortly afterwards.
