THE JUBILEE Inn in Devon is offering dog lovers and their pet pooches a luxury place to stay from this month onwards (February, 2017).
Owners and their four-legged friends can now enjoy a holiday together whether they want to go on rousing rambles, bound around on the beach or simply do some leisurely lounging.
The luxury hotel is co-owned by Claire Sellar-Elliott and Executive Chef Sam Salway. Claire says: “This part of Devon is a wonderful location for anyone with a dog and we are super dog friendly here. There are many wonderful walks of all lengths that we can give lots of advice about and the scenery is simply stunning. We have our own dogs here too – currently a bouncy Border Collie and three Weimaraners, one of which is a gorgeous eight-week old! A senior member of staff also has their own Cruft’s Winner and offers doggy bathing and care!
“We have pet-friendly rooms and are offering people the chance to treat their dog to a relaxing mid-week break or bring them for a long weekend and enjoy lengthy walks across Exmoor, which is very close. From the start of October until the end of April, dogs are also allowed to go on to some of the sandy beaches along the north Devon coastline too.
“But if you’d prefer a more leisurely get away, and your pet isn’t able to go on long walks, then the pretty market town of Tiverton is a great alternative. And it has lots of lovely shops and tearooms too. Or there are shorter walks within the surrounding countryside.
“Then, after you’ve exhausted your best friend and are keen to re-charge you batteries, you can enjoy a three-course dinner made from regionally-sourced, seasonal ingredients in our restaurant and curl up with your pet for a quiet evening reading in the warmth of your cosy room. You could even check out the dog star by wrapping up warm and popping outside for some star gazing, as Exmoor, which is on our doorstep, has very little light pollution so is considered an internationally renowned Dark Sky Reserve – one of the first awarded in Europe. It is perfect for seeing all those major constellations.”
For those who like to take their dogs on longer walks, then the hotel is close to the South West Coast Path and the Two Moors Way from Dartmoor to Exmoor.
Claire adds: “There aren’t many hotels like ours that combine luxury accommodation and award-winning seasonal food while also wholeheartedly welcoming dogs too. We think we’re rather unusual.”
Once a holiday destination for the legendary film star Terry Thomas, whose family lived here in the 1960s and 70s, The Jubilee Inn, which was built in 1936, has recently undergone a complete renovation and extension to create a comfortable boutique-style country house hotel.
She said: “We’ve created a successful restaurant and boutique B&B with an excellent reputation for ambience, customer service and fabulous food, serving seasonal dishes with ingredients sourced from nearby.
“Sam’s decade in Michelin-star Parisian restaurants has introduced an exciting classic French twist to the menus at prices that remain excellent for the quality of the dishes served. With such a high demand for tables at peak times in the restaurants, booking is well advised to avoid disappointment.
“We also have six beautiful and individual hotel rooms that are all luxurious and inviting. We wanted to create a real home from home atmosphere, with all the little extra luxuries!”
All the bedrooms are ‘uniquely different’. They have en suite bathrooms with showers and beds with Vi-Spring mattresses and crisp linens.
Claire added: “We provide our guests with luxurious accommodation, fabulous fine dining in our restaurant or classic comfort food in our bar. All our dishes are cooked to perfection, feature local and regional seasonal produce and are accompanied by fine wines and ales.”
