VISITORS to a Somerset garden centre have helped raise £500 for a national children’s charity (August, 2016).
Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre has counted the money raised through its recent tea party event and donated £500 to Barnardo’s to help with the work it does.
Andrew Pitman, Store Manager at the award-winning, independent, family-run garden centre at Monkton Heathfield near Taunton, said: “Our recent tea party was a huge success and we have been busy counting the money donated on the day and we’re thrilled to have raised £500 for the charity.
“We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of our very generous customers, who never let us down when it comes to helping charities. This is just the start of our fundraising efforts as we hope to raise lots more through the rest of the year for this extremely worthy cause.”
The donation will be used to support some of the services provided by Barnardo’s in Somerset.
In the area the charity is responsible for the Family Link Service, which supports children with complex health needs or life-limiting conditions and the Mandala Therapy and Play Service, which offers specialised therapeutic support to children who have experienced trauma or abuse.
Barnardo’s also works in partnership with Knightstone Housing Association to deliver the Somerset Integrated Domestic Abuse Service to support families with children who have experienced domestic abuse.
Sharla Moolman, Team Manager from the Family Link Service at Barnardo’s, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the donation from the garden centre and would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to every one of their generous customers who donated during the tea party.
“We’re really looking forward to working with the garden centre again in the future.”
