If you’re launching a business, product or service and you’d like the media to attend then here’s a checklist for your launch event:
Compose a contact media list
Decide what, where, when, who, how and why
Plan ahead. Know your target media’s deadlines and give them plenty of warning of your event to ensure the pre and post-publicity you require
Release media invitation at least two weeks prior to the event
Compile and send a media pack to your target media too
Advise on photographs within your correspondence with media – will you have your own press photographer attending or do they need to send a photographer?
Use an RSVP mechanism, but don’t be worried if media can’t attend as you can still supply them with photos and a media release after the event for them to use. These days there aren’t lots of reporters, photographers or camera crews out there. Resources are tight so if you can supply them with all they need then this helps increase the chances of your story being used
Countdown to event – make sure you use social media to countdown to your event as most media these days keep an eye on your online presence even if they don’t follow or like.
