A FAMILY-RUN Christmas tree farm in Somerset has this month (December, 2016) donated three large Christmas trees to a trio of town centres to help them celebrate the yuletide.
The Hendy family at Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, which is based at Middle Hill Farm in Langford Budville, has given Wiveliscombe, Wellington and Taunton town centres a tree each.
Reg Hendy, owner of Langford Lakes, explained: “We’re delighted that we can once again donate our home grown, freshly cut Christmas trees, to our local town centres free of charge. It is all about us giving something back to the people in the local area who support us.
“We love to see our trees standing tall in each town centre and the joy they bring to families who are out and about doing their Christmas shopping.
“This year we supplied the tree to Taunton’s town centre by linking up with Taunton Farmers Market. We have supplied a tree to Wellington for the past 10 years and trees to Taunton and Wiveliscombe for the past four years. The trees donated this year were all Nordman Fir specimens, which have great needle retention. Wiveliscombe has taken delivery of a 15-foot tree, Taunton a 30-foot tree and a 29-foot tree has been donated to Wellington town centre.”
Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is a 40-acre farm that is located close to the nature reserve Langford Heathfield, a mile outside of Langford Budville. It is owned and run by Reg and his wife Ann and their two sons, Shaun and Nick. The family has been growing and selling Christmas trees for more than 20 years.
Eddie Gaines, Member of Wiveliscombe’s Town Council, said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm for donating a tree for us to display in the town centre. We would be unable to afford such a stunning, locally grown, large tree, so its donation is much appreciated.”
Since the early days, Reg has planted an increasing number of trees year-on-year and is now cultivating a much larger stock to meet public demand.
Reg added: “As growers we pride ourselves on offering a quality, fresh product at a very competitive price. We can provide cut trees from three to 30 feet in size and have a superb array of low needle drop Nordman, Fraser Fir and Norway Spruce. We can also supply container grown trees, which have a much higher chance of surviving after Christmas and for future years if kept outdoors and cared for.
“Our Christmas shop is full of more items than ever this year – everything from baubles to a star or fairy for the top of your tree. If you’ve shopped with us before, then I think you’ll be delighted to see how we’ve increased our stock for 2016. Come and get some inspiration and plenty of free, friendly advice from our team of Christmas elves!”
Langford Lakes’ Christmas shop has more decorations to choose from than ever this year including 1,000s of ornaments and festive trimmings that are new for 2016.
Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is open until Friday, December 23, 2016.
