STAFF at an award-winning care provider in Wales are showing their support for a campaign to help battle loneliness at Christmas by sharing baked goods (2017).
Abacare is supporting The Great Christmas Get Together’s #MincePieMoments campaign, created by the Jo Cox Foundation, and is encouraging people to bake or buy mince pies for elderly neighbours and is getting its carers involved too.
Ffion Evans, Registered Manager of the award-winning Abacare, which has offices in Bangor, said: “We do everything we can to tackle social isolation and loneliness within Wales and when we heard about The Great Christmas Get Together’s #MincePieMoments campaign, we thought it would be great to encourage people to get involved and even get our carers in on the action too!
“Many of them will be baking their own mince pies and other treats for service users and their families and neighbours in an effort to spread good cheer and brighten people’s day and we’ll be getting involved on social media with the #MincePieMoments hashtag via our Twitter page @visitabacare and Facebook page at http://on.fb.me/Yn4zmS.”
The Great Get Together was inspired by MP Jo Cox and its community events are part of a campaign run by The Jo Cox Foundation, which celebrates Jo’s life by carrying out work that promotes the things she was passionate about.
In June 2017 it organised the biggest neighbourhood celebrations since the Jubilee street parties, which were a success and it decided to run The Great Christmas Get Together.
Ffion added: “People who take part in The Great Christmas Get Together campaign are the types of caring, honest, reliable and good natured people we want working for us. They have a natural affinity to care and we would encourage them to consider taking on a position in the industry with us or even just working a few hours per week to help an elderly person in their home.
“We provide a valuable service to the people of Wales and new staff are needed on a daily basis. We offer free, full training and the opportunity for career advancement. We’re also very flexible with working hours, so if anyone is interested in joining the team, they should give us a call on 01248 677 919 for more information.”
