AFF from Notaro Homecare (NHC) in North Somerset are showing their support for society’s ‘hidden’ carers and the important role they play as part of National Dementia Carer’s Day next month (September, 2017).
National Dementia Carer’s Day, which is part of World Alzheimer’s Month, takes place on September 10 and was introduced to recognise and celebrate informal dementia carers, while highlighting what it means to be a carer.
Nicky Norville, Registered Manager at NHC in Weston-super-Mare, which was recently one of three providers to be awarded the final care contract for homecare provision across North Somerset for the next seven years, said: “All our carers do fantastic work for our service users, working long hours to provide everything they need and we thank them for that, however there are ‘hidden’ carers in today’s society that might be looking after friends or loved-ones without receiving payments or recognition so we wanted to let them know that we support them.
“We want to help spread awareness and show our support so we’re offering any carers any help or advice they might need. All they need to do is give us a call on 01934 422800 and our expert staff will be more than happy to chat to them about care and share their experience as well as offer tips and any other support they can.
“If any ‘hidden’ carers would like to know more about our respite care services or our dementia and live-in care services in order to take the pressure off themselves, they can give us a call.”
National Dementia Carer’s Day is now in its third year and support organisations, charities and community groups are being urged to get behind the campaign by spreading awareness and helping to signpost sources of advice and support using #NDCD17.
The day is part of World Alzheimer’s Month, which will highlight the importance of early detection and diagnosis of dementia.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to more than one million by 2025. One in six people over the age of 80 have dementia.
More than 225,000 people will develop dementia this year, which is one every three minutes.
Due to its continued hard work and dedication to its sector, NHC supports hundreds of people remaining in their own homes. It provides an extensive range of services, from daily calls and sleep-ins to bespoke live-in care services.
The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive-based outcomes and person-centred care to people throughout North Somerset.

MOTORISTS in Somerset are being invited to support a scout group and a children’s charity in the county by having their cars washed at a fundraiser being held next month (September, 2017).
Rumwell Farm Shop and the 1st Wellington Scout Group have teamed up once again but this time to raise money for Escape Support Group and the scout group on Saturday, September 16.
Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the farm shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, said: “We hope lots of people take advantage and support the car wash as it is being held for two great local causes.
“Escape Support Group is one of our charities of the year and has been supporting families who have a child, or children, with disabilities or specific individual needs in the Somerset area for 17 years.
“We are so pleased that the scouts were happy to come on board again for the fundraiser and also collect some money for their activities.”
The car wash will be held in the Rumwell Farm Shop car park on Saturday, September 16 from 10am until 4pm and will cost £4 per vehicle with £2 going to the Wellington Scouts and £2 to Escape Support Group.
Sarah Phippen, Team Leader at Escape Support Group, said: “Escape depends on the support of others, and we very much appreciate what Anne and the staff at Rumwell Farm Shop have been able to achieve so far this year.
“We are also very grateful to the 1st Wellington Scout Group for sharing their profits from the car wash with us. It is great to see young people fundraising to help others who may be less fortunate than themselves. I hope there are lots of dirty cars around on the day.”
Escape’s main aim is to provide fun activities, allowing children the opportunity to experience a positive childhood where they are integrated fully, and are able to share experiences that will enhance and enrich their lives, which other children and families may take for granted.
Dave Belfield, Executive Chairman at the 1st Wellington Scout Group, said: “We’re looking forward to attending our second car wash of the year at Rumwell Farm Shop. We hope people in the area once again get behind the fundraiser and pop along with their dirty vehicles. The scouts are raring to go and ready to make each car squeaky clean.
“The money raised will be going towards improving the scouts camping and activities equipment benefiting all age groups across Scouts, Cubs and Beavers.”
Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate.
Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased and the farm shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business.
Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional butchery counter selling free range pork and Aberdeen Angus beef reared just four miles away on the family farm. There is also a delicatessen, bakery, jam kitchen, food hall, wine cellar and gift room.
Home grown potatoes are also still available, when in season, as well as everything from fruit, vegetables and groceries to plants, flowers, gifts and cards.
The Rumwell Cafe, which opened in May 2015, can seat approximately 80 people. The food prepared in the café kitchen is sourced from the farm shop, the Mitchell family farm and regional suppliers.
Families are welcome to the cafe and there is a menu especially for children. The cafe also serves afternoon teas, carvery on a Sunday and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
The car wash will take place on Saturday, September 16 at Rumwell Farm Shop from 10am until 4pm.

We’ve been appointed to handle the PR for The White Hart in Weston in Gordano.
www.whitehartwig.com is owned by husband and wife team, Chris and Mike Yeatman. They renovated and re-opened the pub in 2015 after it had been closed for two years.
The couple, who also own and run the tapas bar and restaurant Venga in Portishead, and their 30-strong team wanted to create a unique experience for visitors and diners and have developed an outside garden area that includes a large central tepee with fire pit, a rum shack and an open-air pizzeria kitchen. They also have on site an artisan bakery.
We will be looking after Venga’s PR as well and helping promote its loft apartment, which is available as a holiday let.
Venga offers informal dining and an authentic Mediterranean experience. The menu is freshly prepared, sourcing ingredients from as nearby as possible.
