We’ve recently been taken on by an award-winning store in Wellington to assist with its PR activity.
The Emporium Somerset, which has not long since celebrated its first anniversary in business, is an award-winning retailer with more than 40 shops under the same roof.
Co-owner, Cato Cooper, who runs the business with her husband Sean, said: “We’re delighted to have enlisted the help of the Porcupine PR team. We’re working together to help drive further footfall to the store, to create a stronger online presence for us and to increase general awareness of our brand more widely locally, regionally and nationally. We’ve got some busy times ahead as we build and prepare for our best Christmas ever sales-wise.”
Cato has her own painted furniture and home accessories studio and workshop at the front of the Emporium, as well as helping run the whole store, which includes thousands of lovely homeware and gift items, many made nearby.
Our MD, Rachel Burks said: “It’s a wonderful place and Cato and Sean work incredibly hard to provide the very best in customer service and to achieve excellent results for the traders. The stock the traders have in-store is pretty inspiring and interesting too, so if you haven’t already been, it’s well worth a visit and I defy you to leave without purchasing something!”
As well as helping drive customers to The Emporium Somerset, we will also be assisting with attracting potential new traders as the business expands and grows.
Cato Cooper explained: “As we now have three floors and have re-jigged our units, we’re looking for more people from all over Somerset and even into Devon who would like to take a unit here and sell their locally-made products to our customers. We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who makes their own home, garden, kitchen, food and lifestyle items.
“We’d like to showcase some of the very best Somerset, Devon, Westcountry and British crafts, and to offer people more opportunities to buy unusual yet affordable, items all under the same roof.
“We’re also keen to hear from anyone who would like to take a unit that may not make their own products, but is based in the area, and wants to take the next step in their business development. Please just get in touch via telephone, our website email or social media. We’d love to hear from you!”
The Emporium houses a collection of individual traders selling mostly hand-crafted and Fair Trade products.

EVENT organisers looking for a pop-up or street food style coffee shop and tearoom are being offered assistance by one of the country’s leading beverage businesses based in Telford (July, 2016).
Café Works has officially launched the new mobile arm of its business this month to complement its existing services available to smaller customer-facing companies and large corporations.
Jacques Farmer, Managing Director of Café Works, said: “We’re now able to provide equipment and products for mobile and pop-up coffee shops, which are becoming increasingly popular especially with the advent of street food. So anyone organising say, for example, a music festival or a street food event can book us to come along and provide all their beverages.”
Café Works provides traditional coffee equipment, as well as bean to cup semi-automatic and fully automatic kit with either fresh or powdered milk. It offers artisan coffee from ethical companies and provides a good range of teas and hot chocolate too.
It already operates nationwide and supplies single serve coffee options, tea and coffee equipment and vending solutions in-house to retailers, B&Bs and hotels, restaurants and office-based businesses.
“Our products are second to none and we only offer the very best quality beverages including some well-known high-end High Street and household brands. The taste is vital to our success in the other areas of our business and we’ll be bringing this expertise to the pop-up and mobile service we now offer too. For pop-up events we will take along our fully automatic Bean to Cup machines so people can see these in action.”
Jacques worked for Sodexo, one of the world’s leading providers of contract catering and Facilities Management for 18 years and has 30 years of experience in supplying vending and hot beverage equipment and products to clients in all sectors.
During his time at Sodexo, his responsibilities ranged from technical services, operations, client account management and business development to managing key clients such as Honda UK Manufacturing and Unilever.
Jacques, who is licensed to work in tea and coffee services by the Academy of Food and Wine Service, launched his own business at the start of the year.
“Café Works is ‘more than just tea and coffee’. We do everything from offering sound advice to selling great equipment and products, and have innovative ideas to help our clients solve the various problems they might have, along with providing other bits and pieces for home, restaurants and coffee shops.
“We are also working with an established designer to tailor our equipment and products to suit, for example, farm shops needing coffee to go and restaurants needing something more sophisticated. As well as working with larger organisations requiring vending solutions, we also help small businesses needing equipment to help save staff time in-house when making that all important, inspirational and thirst-quenching cuppa for the team!”

Not sure what’s best for you? Here’s our handy guide to why PR represents a better return on investment than most methods of advertising…even those social media ads.
PR is a recommendation
PR helps form a favourable public opinion through the ‘implied endorsement’ of non-biased industry authorities - print and broadcast media journalists.
Consider what holds more weight - an advertisement about a new shop, hotel or restaurant opening or a positive article, written in editorial style about the hottest new place in town?
PR is cost effective
What can you get for £165 in the world of advertising that gets you in front of potentially millions of people on a local and national level?
Not a great deal really…But with us, for just £165 plus VAT you can have a one-off professional press/media release with press photography that can be sent to any media locally and nationwide depending on who you wish to target.
An advertisement may guarantee you space and you can say (within the boundaries advertising codes/laws of course) what you wish but how much does it cost (including time, design and additional resources not just the space paid for)?
Who sees/hears it and how many people? Does it give the right message? What does it convert to in terms of worth, return on investment and sales?
PR is credible
PR generates news coverage and news coverage builds credibility. People believe what they read in newspapers and magazines, what they hear on the radio and what they see on television. People are sceptical of what they see in an advertisement.
While it’s easy to toot your own horn. It’s more difficult to get someone to believe your claims through advertising alone.
