A SOMERSET pub, hotel and restaurant has recently donated more than £300 to two animal charities in the county.
The Bower Inn in Bridgwater has raised £311.76 for the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) at Heaven’s Gate Farm near Langport and for Dogs 4 Adoption at Wrantage near Taunton.
Candida Leaver, who co-runs the award-winning Westcountry venue with her husband Peter Starling, said: “We’re delighted that we were able to make donations to these charities, which are our chosen charities for 2016. We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to our loyal customers for helping us raise this money.
“The cash was raised in a number of ways from the collection tins on our bar to proceeds from our monthly quizzes. We also have a jar on the bar with doggie biscuits in and a note asking customers who take a biscuit, whether to give to their own dog or to our dog Ben, to drop some money in one of the collection tins.
“Once the collection pots are full we then send the money to the two charities. We recently managed to give £141.18 to Dogs 4 Adoption and £170.58 to NAWT.”
Dogs 4 Adoption is based at St Giles Kennels. They have a number of dogs and cats looking for new homes.
NAWT’s West Henley centre, just outside of Langport, rehomes a wide variety of animals. Apart from the extensive kennels and cattery there are stables and paddocks for donkeys and ponies. The farm area accommodates goats and we have a pond and poultry enclosure for ducks, geese and chickens.
